Difference between a daycare and a babysitting “business”?
Question by : Difference between a daycare and a babysitting “business”?
I know there are certain permits, etc. needed to start your own daycare center, however is there guidelines as to what the difference would be between running a business (daycare) or just consistenly babysitting children in your home? I plan on starting college soon for daycare management, and would like a little more information on the differences.

My mother owns a daycare, and while I don’t know much I will share what I do. In the state of Texas, at least, it is possible to have a “home care” business that can take care of up to 12 children. One of the benefits of doing this is that the business can be operated out of your home in areas not normally zoned for business.
I believe that home care businesses are also except from some (not all) of the many many legal requirements that a daycare must have. For example, a daycare is required to have at least one “fire exit” that opens when pushed, and clearly marked exit signs.
